CEO visit to the NW

on Mar 30, 2018 |

Terry Murphy visited the NW on 23rd & 24th March- I attended the first session which was held in Barton Village Hall. Despite the delay in obtaining the key to open up-not our fault!- the session went very well. It was attended by around 25 members from different branches, and I believe most members gained a lot of knowledge on how the Guild runs, and what is involved these days in meeting legislation etc. Terry gave a talk to start with, which I think would have answered quite a few questions in the members minds. He has already attended quite a few talks in different Regions in the last few weeks, and would have known what subjects may come up. Questions were asked, and hopefully satisfactory answers given, although I am sure there are still some questions buzzing around that will need answering in the future. The mood of the meeting was positive and open, and I know Terry was very impressed with the meeting and the NW members he met. I have been told that the Merseyside meeting went well, but attendance was a little disappointing- however some members turned up and hopefully gained further knowledge and were satisfied with the answers given. It is a two way street, and HO also need help and guidance from the members. I will be giving a short precise at Regional Day, and also in my next newsletter in...

Exchange visit to Rochdale Branch 22nd March

on Mar 30, 2018 |

Tracey Ramsay from Parbold Branch arranged with Rochdale to do an exchange visit, with Rochdale ladies visiting us in February 2019. I opted to go with her with double intent, to help by talking about Parbold members Exhibition ‘Fragments of the Past’ which was held a few years ago, and also to visit the branch in my role as NWR Chair. We were made very welcome, and the meeting had a great turnout- I did a little talk on my role as Regional Chair, and then we continued with our prepared talk. We took over twenty pieces of work which were displayed on three tables. We then gave a brief summary of the members inspiration and techniques used on each piece. We also took a selection of antique tools and materials which had been included in our exhibition. The Rochdale ladies & gentleman, were able to look more closely at the pieces of work, which included traditional work and more contemporary pieces. We then sat down to eat as the members had laid out a sumptuous spread of sandwiches and home made cakes- loads of tea and lively conversation. The Rochdale Members had a wonderful display of their work from previous workshops, and displayed bunting all around the walls. A brilliant do, and one I hope to repeat at other branches- High tea not a neccessity though, but very welcome!!! Here are some photos from the Day- Lovely Spread Rochdale members work some of  Parbolds pieces        ...

on Feb 3, 2018 |

Our CEO Terry Murphy is visiting the NWR on Friday 23rd March and Saturday 24th March. This is an ideal opportunity to ask him all those burning questions about the Guild, HO future plans, problems and challenges. These will be informal meetings, and Terry is willing to answer all questions from the floor. Due to the size of our Region it has been decided to give members a better chance of attending the sessions by holding two sessions, the first in the Middle to North, and the other in the West and Lower half- sounds like ‘Game of Thrones’!!!
